Cook & Company Insurance Services to Provide
Training for Police Chiefs in Area of Management of Injured on Duty Claims

Cook & Company Insurance Services, Inc., a firm providing multi-faceted insurance services with an eye toward controlling costs, will provide training for Massachusetts Police Chiefs on the subject of how to process municipal claims by law enforcement officers who are injured in the line of duty.

Marshfield resident William P. Sullivan, Managing Director of Cook & Company’s IOD (Injured on Duty) division, will lead the training session that takes place at the Harborview Hotel in Edgartown. Sullivan will work with Police Chiefs attending the training session, to instruct them on the steps and procedures of managing the process of work-related injuries occurring on the job filed by police officers. The training session is part of a week long program for both police and fire personnel. Sullivan, who retired in 2012 as Chief of Police in Marshfield after a career in law enforcement spanning 44 years, will serve as the subject Area Expert in IOD matters at the training.

In his capacity at Cook & Company, Sullivan oversees the program that assists Massachusetts cities and towns in managing claims filed on behalf of police and firefighters injured while in service to their communities. The Cook & Company program includes reviewing medical bills, reviewing reporting and administrative procedures, coordinating medical case management, and maintaining contact with injured employees. This is a very specific procedural area for municipal administrators, different from traditional workers compensation; and Cook & Company is one of the very few agencies with expertise in this arena.

Chief Sullivan is a former Chairman of the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council, member of the Executive Committee of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association, and the former President of the Southeast MA Chiefs of Police Association. He has also taught at the graduate level at Anna Maria College in their Criminal Justice department, and at Bridgewater State College in their Political Science graduate program.
